“A show for the whole family. A real good time!” – City Paper
“The original true crime game!”
About the show: Murder and blackmail are on the menu when six mysterious guests assemble at Boddy Manor for a night they’ll never forget! Was it Mrs. Peacock in the study with the knife? Or was it Colonel Mustard in the library with the wrench? Based on the cult 1985 Paramount movie and inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, Clue is the ultimate whodunit that will leave you dying of laughter and keep you guessing until the final twist.
“Makes good moves… The creators have found the clue.” – The Baltimore Sun
“Superb! Terrific! Excellent! Fun!” – Herald Gazette
CLUE delivers a comedic treat that’s genuinely delightful. Laughter is abundant and effortlessly flows in this stage adaptation, blending farce with a murder mystery inspired by the iconic 1985 film by Jonathan Lynn. Written by Sandy Rustin, with additional material from Hunter Foster and Eric Price, and original music from Michael Holland, Director L. Walter Stearns’s ensemble lands each and every moment. The show successfully maximizes the laughs and maintains the integrity.
These actors totally nail the vibe of both comedy and mystery. The characters in the play are dead serious about themselves and the crazy situations, but the ensemble skillfully mines the humor in embracing those truths. It’s like a how-to guide on performing farce. And the best part? The play’s just 90 minutes, so it doesn’t drag on. There’s the perfect amount of time to get the mystery rolling, have some laughs, and wrap things up, leaving the audience with a fantastic and hilarious memory to take home.
“Like the board game, and life itself, the play winds up making only one perception true — but thank goodness this one’s fun.” – The New York Times
Clue will go on a national tour this 2024, visiting more than 20 towns between February and August. To all the people in Appleton, Wisconsin, we’re pleased to announce that the show is stopping in your city! Casey Hushion (Mean Girls, Aladdin, The Prom, Eld, In the Heights, and CLUE at Paper Mill Playhouse) will once again direct the performance, which is a re-mount of the Paper Mill Playhouse’s 2022 staging. The production is by playwright Sandy Rustin (Disney Theatricals and stage adaptation of the hit film Mystic Pizza). Casting will be announced.
Hushion is reassembling the majority of her creative team from the Paper Mill run, including scenic designer Lee Savage, costume designer Jen Caprio, and lighting designer Ryan J. O’Gara. Jeff Human, a sound designer, has joined the tour. The Araca Group, Work Light Productions, and Lively McCabe Entertainment are producing.
In a review from Theatre Mania, they said: “Sandy Rustin adapts Jonathan Lynn’s infinitely quotable screenplay, borrowing its most sparkling gems but fashioning her own piece in the spirit of classic ensemble farce (Hunter Foster and Eric Price are credited with contributing additional material). Synchronized door slams, pratfalls, and wide-eyed gasps should all be on your murder mystery bingo card. And while neither Rustin nor her director and collaborator Casey Hushion is reinventing the wheel, they have built a machine that happily hums along with no sign of the exertion it takes to make this brand of comedy look utterly effortless.”
“Murder mystery and suspense comedy” – Social Thrills
